Located in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, the University of Vigo is a public, autonomous institution. The University of Vigo has showing with a large experience in marine and maritime research. Most of this expertise revolves around the International Campus of Excellence Campus do Mar promoted and coordinated by the University of Vigo, with more than 3500 researchers from 25 R&D institutions from the Euro-region Galicia-Northern Portugal. It represents a R&D aggregation in the fields of Ocean Sciences and Technology with an international projection.

Research in Campus do Mar is organized in four clusters: “Ocean Observing and Global Change”, “Sustainable Use of Marine Resources”, “Integrated Management of the Coastal Zone” and “Competitiveness: technological progress and business management”. Furthermore, there are four new emerging lines identified: “Modelling of complex systems”, “Omic technologies applied to the marine environment”, “Marine energy” and “Marine Products”.
